Enough Hemp, AD interviews Damon Sexenborough: Documentary Film Maker, Hill Swingers and Shane Fernleigh: Swinger Warrior.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT
AD: Welcome Damon, Shane.

Damon Sexenborough: Thanks for having us.

AD: There’s been a lot of dissention in the media about Hill Swingers, what do you say to the people that found your film offensive?

Damon Sexenborough: It’s easy to offend people; it’s harder to make them see.

Shane Fernleigh: What have we ever done? It’s us that should be offended by society’s attitude!

AD: Hmmmm… I can see you’re very passionate about this…. Damon, what is it exactly that you want people to see?

Damon Sexenborough: That every creature has a place, that swingers are a misunderstood species, with wonderful customs and lifestyle traits that enrich our society, our planet. Human Ignorance and cruelty is responsible for the eliminisation of so much beauty in this world. I see it every day in my work, you have to be strong, or it can break your heart.

AD: Eliminisation? Don’t you mean elimination?

Damon Sexenborough: No.. it’s not ‘just’ elimination, it’s minimalisation as well!

AD: Mmmm.. I see… Damon, can I ask, what is your background? What drove you to make this film? Are you a swinger yourself?

Damon Sexenborough: I have a PhD in Sapioanthrology. I use documentary film making to share my discoveries and do my bit for the plight of those I research. And no, I’m not a swinger myself.

AD: I’ve never heard of Sapioanthrology?

Damon Sexenborough: It’s a very rare field, very erudite. It looks at the evolution of the homo-sapien in a chimerical context. It’s both our genes and the way we wore them in last years fashion shoot. I’m somewhat of a doyen in the Sapioanthrological arena.

AD: I understand you are very well respected Damon. What about you Shane? With your parks and reserves you’re obviously very committed. Are you a swinger yourself?

Shane Fernleigh: My mother was a swinger and she……….. I… I guess you could say I…… have a personal reason for what I do.

AD: What about your father?

Shane Fernleigh: No, it made it very difficult in our family, it’s really something.. something.. I’d rather not talk about please.

AD: I apologise if I have upset you Shane, I’ll change the subject. Damon, can you tell me what ‘subjection’ means?

Damon Sexenborough: I would have thought a man of your intelligence wouldn’t have to ask questions like that.

AD: I’m sorry, but I do.

Damon Sexenborough: Well clearly it’s very much like when something has been objectified, but instead of being an object, they’re a subject. It’s a commonly used term in my field.

AD: I see.. I think…But isn’t that what you’ve done? Turned them into a subject?

Shane Fernleigh: If I’d known you were so anti-swingetic I wouldn’t have come on this show. It’s all about putting us down isn’t it…. Pick on the swingers, it’s all you know how to do…. It’s not us that should be ashamed, it’s you.. for what you are doing…

AD: Anti-swingetic? I’m sorry I don’t know what that means.

Damon Sexenborough: Every revolution needs its own vocabulary. I think you know exactly what it means.

AD: If you mean that I’m prejudiced against swingers, I can assure you I’m not.

Damon Sexenborough: There’s a lot of swingaphobes out there, Shane has to deal with fear and ridicule on a daily basis.

AD: Gentleman, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you. Shane, you handle Swingers every day on your reserve, can you tell me, is it ever dangerous?

Shane Fernleigh: Well I suppose with a mountain of lube and your foot in the wrong place there’s always the possibility that someone is going to get hurt. You just have to know what you are doing. If more people respected their habitat and rituals there would be no problems.

AD: I think we have time for one last question. So can you tell me, if you’re partial to a fondue, what does that mean?

Shane Fernleigh: It’s a big mixed gene pool, that’s all I’m going to say. Was it Shakespeare that said ‘he doth protest too much.’

AD: Mmmm.. well I wish you luck with the… revolution.

Damon Sexenborough: Thanks again for having us.
